Job Description Site Manager

Location of job: Kapuna Hospital, Papua New Guinea

Timing of job: March 2018 - March 2020

Duration of job: Approximately 2 years

Remuneration: volunteer allowance and coverage of expenses

Introduction

Kapuna hospital was built in the early 1950’s. Ever since there has been little money to do major renovations. Therefore Kapuna has looked for funding to thoroughly renovate its facilities, including its hospital and ancillary buildings, a floating wharf, a solar system and renewed water management. This project will most likely be funded with Australian money and therefore we need professionals on the ground to help us carry out this large project.

Responsibilities

As a site manager you will be responsible for:

  • Supervising the renovations and new construction of buildings as set out in the plans
  • Make sure all PNG buildings are complied with
  • Coordinate the implementation schedule as set out so that construction, plumbing, electrical, painters etc all follow the schedule
  • Coordinate and oversight contractors that works done are as required and up to standard
  • Do onsite training with builders and trainees as needed
  • Be responsible together with works supervisor and foreman for work safety
  • Hold regular (bi weekly) tool box meetings with the building team
  • Oversight safety of use of power equipment on site
  • Monitor tools for maintenance and arrange for their repair or replacement
  • Coordinate site logistics
  • Work closely with work preparation on the ordering and shipment of materials
  • Coordinate with the works supervisor to see that all supplies are correctly stored and materials are tracked as used
  • See that workshop coordinator is keeping good records of material movement
  • Make sure hospital activities are not disrupted too much, discuss with medical team
  • Be part of the Project Management Team

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a volunteer with experience in building projects and knowledge of materials and PNG/Australian standards in all areas. Preferably you have a lot of experience in site management with previous building projects. In order to live and enjoy life in this remote place, it would be good if you are flexible and able to cope with different living conditions. Other than that we are hoping that you are a committed Christian who is open to have fellowship with our community.
