Job Description Structural Engineer

Introduction

Kapuna hospital was built in the late 1940’s. Ever since there has been limited funding to do major renovations. Therefore, Kapuna has looked for funding to thoroughly renovate its facilities, including its complete hospital and ancillary buildings, a floating wharf, a solar system and renewed water management. This project will most likely be funded with Australian funding and the last phase of the basic engineering is the consistency and improvement of the current set of structural drawings.

 

Responsibilities

As a structural engineer you will be responsible for:

• Enhance the set of construction detailing/structural engineering plans based on local advice, current projects and PNG building norms standards
• Review the architectural drawings and ensuring they align with the structural drawings
• Prepare a Bill of Quantities based on the architectural-and structural plans

 

Who we are looking for

During the last year we have created both architectural and structural drawings for the hospital renovation and expansion. The structural engineer drafted typical plans which apply to all buildings. However, these typical plans are not fully aligned and compliant with the actual building methodology. We are looking for a professional engineer with significant experience in Autocad drafting, working on construction projects, experience in distilling a BoQ from plans, and good knowledge of PNG building materials and construction detailing to enhance the existing set of typical plans and apply them to all architectural/structural plans. Secondly, a detailed Bill of Quantities is to be prepared, extracted from the same plans through Autocad, Revit, ArchiCad or BoQ software application
